How I Use Notion: The Life Dashboard

I love planning, whether physical or digital. I started using a planner in 2014, and while I still use my physical planner to this day, I’ve also embraced the digital planning space over the past few years. I discovered Notion and haven’t looked back since. I have been wanting to give a tour of exactly how I use Notion, and today, I’m finally starting my Notion Tour series, beginning with the very first thing I see when I open the program. The Life Dashboard.

The Life Dashboard

The Life Dashboard is my landing page when I open the program, letting me see what current time and weather, the tasks I have ahead of me, my weekly focus, appointments for the week, and some other small details. I try to start with immediate information at the top, like time and weather, and future stuff towards the bottom, like goals.

The Widget Section

At the very top are some widgets that I use for quick reference. On the left is the clock widget, in the middle is the weather widget, and on the right is the countdown to my next weekend vacation. This gives me a quick overview of some details as I begin working for the day or closing up for the night.

Life Areas, Navigation, Tasks, and Focus

This section is a lot more busy. Life Areas breaks down my life into several pillars: Home & family, purpose, study, content, writing, gaming, studio, and finance. On the left is the navigation to other pages and databases, in the middle is my task list and assignment list for school, and on the right is my weekly focus, which includes all the tasks I need to do, plus stats for the week.

Study, Reading, and Schedule

This section is more of a mishmash of information. On the left is my current class and the current book I’m reading, in the middle is my appointment schedule, and on the right, my weekly focus shows all my nutritional and habitual averages for the week so far.

Goals Database

This section shows my goals database. Granted, I don’t look at this as often, so I may remove it from the life dashboard entirely.

Putting it All Together

A life dashboard interface showing various sections such as tasks, schedule, finances, and goals, with a sunny and cheerful design.

Here is the full view of what the Life Dashboard of my Notion looks like when I scroll through it. It’s not a bad setup, and I find that it works very well for what I need. Like I said, I may remove the Goals Database from the bottom. Also, the yellow pictures used in this page were created by me. I love customizing my Notion seasonally, so I’ve made covers for all of my pages in four different colors, yellow, pink, blue, and purple, which I’ll change out with the seasons.

If you have any specific areas you’d like to see, let me know below. In the future, I’ll be giving tours of the Life Areas databases, plus some of the pages that can be seen on the left navigation menu. I hope you enjoyed this first tour of my Notion, and I look forward to sharing more soon!
